Spring 2 Update

English

This term in English, we’ve been diving into the world of traditional tales! We've explored classic stories, including creating our own alternative ending for The Gingerbread Man and rewriting The Little Red Hen. Our writing has focused on developing narratives, while we’ve also been learning about important grammar skills, such as using speech marks, capital letters for proper nouns, and “bossy” verbs (imperative verbs). It’s been a term full of creativity and fun! Look at the pictures we drew by following instructions – Miss Bowen was being very bossy!

Maths

In Maths this term, we’ve been exploring the exciting world of multiplication and division! We’ve been counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s, and using arrays to help solve problems. We’ve also been comparing weight, learning key vocabulary such as heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter, and lightest. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving, our young mathematicians are building strong foundations in number skills and measurement!

Art

This term in Art, we’ve been inspired by the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh! We’ve been practising drawing in his distinctive style, creating beautiful still life drawings, and using watercolours to paint our own versions of his iconic sunflowers. Our budding artists have enjoyed exploring colour, texture, and technique as we bring Van Gogh’s artistic world to life in our classroom!

Geography

In Geography this term, we’ve been comparing Japan and Godalming, exploring both the human and physical features of these places. We’ve learnt about Japan’s unique landmarks, such as Mount Fuji, cherry blossom trees, and the tilting train, while also discovering interesting facts like its large population. To share what we’ve learnt, we created a fun and informative poster to encourage people to visit Japan, showcasing all the wonderful things this fascinating country has to offer!

RE

In RE this term, we’ve been learning about Judaism and exploring its rich traditions. We’ve had the opportunity to look at special artefacts, such as the Torah scroll, a yad, and traditional clothing, to better understand the significance of these items in Jewish culture. Our exploration has helped us appreciate the values and beliefs that make Judaism unique and meaningful to its followers.
