Autumn Update 1

We have had a fantastic start to the year and the children have settled in brilliantly to being the top of the school.  We have been working hard on making sure we all follow the school expectations and making Brown Bear classroom an excellent place for learning.

During our Maths lessons we have been recapping our addition and subtraction facts to 20.  We have spent time exploring what place value means and used number lines to help decide if it is easier to do the method of taking away (counting back from a number) or finding the difference (counting on from a number) when carrying out a subtraction fact. Why not practice more at home and see how quickly it takes you to remember and recall them all?

Finding the difference

Taking away

In our English lessons, we have looked at three familiar books, so that the children are able to showcase their writing skills.  The children have had great fun writing about the planet that Beegu comes from, describing their own Gruffalo and writing a fact file using the information from Gruffalo's Child.  Next week's diary writing linked to Man on the Moon is sure to be out of this world too!

In other learning, the children have been learning a Scottish Country Dance, enjoyed playing 'One knee - two knees' to help with their throwing and catching skills and sampled different fruits ready for the designing and making of their own ice-lollies.  What an exciting rest of term we have to come!
