Autumn Update 1

What a great start to the year we have had in Black Bear Class.  The children have been having lots of fun learning about descriptive writing with the story 'The Gruffalo', by Julia Donaldson.  They were very keen to create their very own Gruffalos, and then write a description using interesting adjectives in such detail that another child could draw their version of the Gruffalo from the description alone.  The children were able to see the importance of detailed descriptions when their friend drew their Gruffalo without a head!

First we planned our noun phrases.

Then we wrote a description for a friend to draw.

In Maths, we have been looking into place value and number facts.  The children have been using inverse operations to help check if calculations are correct and have also been working on some reasoning tasks to challenge their understanding of problem-solving skills.

As a part of our Design and Technology lessons, we have been learning about healthy ingredients required to make a tasty ice lolly.  The children found out about where in the world different fruits grow and from which plants they come.
