Spring Update 3
Spring has sprung, and we have been extremely busy in Sun Bear Class!
Book week
What a fantastic week we had for Book Week in Year 1! We were thrilled to welcome an author to our school, where we had the chance to learn from their creative journey. The excitement continued as we had a blast writing postcards to Ted, sharing our thoughts and imaginations. It was a week full of fun, learning, and lots of reading!
History
In Year 1, we've been exploring toys from the past and present, taking a journey through different decades! We've looked at toys that children played with long ago and compared them to the ones we enjoy today. It's been exciting to discover what’s similar and what’s different, from materials to designs, and how toys have changed over time. The class has loved learning about how toys have evolved while seeing how much fun they still bring!
DT
In Year 1, we've been working on a fun Design and Technology project – creating shoebox bedrooms! Using junk modelling, we're designing our own mini bedrooms, thinking carefully about all the important features like furniture, wallpaper, and flooring. It's been a great way to explore our creativity while learning about how to make a room feel just right. We can’t wait to see all the amazing bedrooms come to life!
Science week
Science Week in Year 1 was a blast! The whole school took part in an exciting investigation to discover what happens when you mix different substances – it was full of surprises! We also had the pleasure of welcoming the cutest little balls of fluff, as we learned about baby animals. It was a week packed with fun experiments and adorable discoveries!
Maths
In Year 1, we’ve been learning about fractions in maths! We’ve been focusing on halving and finding a quarter, making sure the parts are equal every time. It’s been great fun cutting shapes, sharing snacks, and exploring how to split things into fair and equal parts!
We’re really looking forward to the summer term in Year 1! With warmer weather on the way, we can’t wait to get outside and dive into some exciting new learning. We’ll be exploring new concepts and moving our learning even further, making the most of the season to learn through hands-on activities and fun challenges. It's going to be an amazing term!
