Spring Update 3

Our English learning has been extremely good fun this half-term, we have been exploring longer texts and thinking much more carefully about the style of our writing.   a particular highlight was designing a method for getting to school more quickly like Rosie Revere engineer. We have also enjoyed creating a chapter of the worst witch and writing a letter to the character Anna Hibiscus.

The Great Fire of London in History, English and Computing has been a massive hit with all the children and you might have heard your fair share of facts at home!  We had a visitor from the fire service who talked to the children about how things have changed or stayed the same since 1666 which was great for finding out how we live today as a direct result of some of the things that happened 350 years ago.  The BBC website has some great videos, games and information that the children have loved researching and they have also been able to find some other great websites using the child-friendly search engine 'swiggle'.

In Maths, we have been continuing to work on different strategies that we can use to add and subtract one and two-digit numbers from each other.  We have added counting in 3s to our multiplication facts and have reinforced the division facts for 2s, 5s and 10s.  We are now more confident with creating a fact family for each of the times tables, understanding which number to start with when we create the two division calculations.

Book week was a real success and the children were very excited to take part in The Masked Reader, which was a big hit with the adults too. It is not everyday a T-Rex comes to school.
