Spring 3 Update

We have had a busy term full of fun and fantastic learning!

We enjoyed brilliantly organised weeks, such as Book Week, where we came dressed up as our favourite characters, had an author visit and workshop to write a postcard about our adventure into space, and we had lots of fun guessing who the masked readers were!

We also had Science Week when the children got to see the changes in our wonderful visitors - the ducklings! The children enjoyed the excitement of the duckling eggs hatching and watching them grow! During this week, the children also got to see the changes that happen when things are mixed as part of a science workshop, and we learnt all about the amazing adaptations that animals have evolved to have to ensure their survival!

Over the course of the term, we looked at the following texts and writing tasks:

  • Elephant information leaflets - creating an information page.
  • Traction Man - writing an adventure story.
  • Through the Magic Mirror - Fictional story writing.
  • The Day the Crayons Quit - Letter writing.
  • The Easter Bunny - Character Description.

In Maths, we have covered the following concepts:

  • Addition and Subtraction - using doubles, counting on, inverse operations, using number tracks and number lines, finding patterns, number bonds to 10/20.
  • Measurement - Time - O'clock and half past.
  • Number and place value - reading, writing, comparing and ordering numbers, place value of numbers, and multiples of 2, 5, and 10s.
  • Fractions - finding quarters of shapes, a set of objects, and lengths.

Over the term, we have been learning about different styles of dance in PE and playing games to develop our understanding of attackers and defenders within games. We have been continuing to develop our understanding of Judaism and the Easter story in RE, materials and their properties in Science, and we have enjoyed learning about and comparing toys of the past and recalling some of the facts we learnt on our trip to the Milestones Museum at the start of the year. We have also had brilliant fun creating bedrooms within shoeboxes as part of our Design and Technology project - we were so impressed with the detailed planning and careful designs of these!
