Summer Update 1
Following the Easter break, we have welcomed the children back to Spectacled Bears for their final term in Year 1! We are so proud of how far they have come already and discussions about their transition to Year 2 will be beginning this term. With this, there have become tighter expectations regarding their transitions and routines around the school and also being mindful of their learning choices as they prepare to be the oldest children in the school!
Since coming back, the children have been learning to identify features of letters and to write their own letters, to identify rhyme and rhythm within poetry and write their own rhyming poems within the structure of the class poem, and they have written an information page about the five senses.
In maths, the children have looked at capacity, number and place value, and using doubles to support their addition and subtraction skills. There has been a particular focus over the past few weeks on securing their knowledge of place value as we move on to working with bigger numbers within 100.
The children have been very excited that the Geography unit this term is to look at the continents of the world – they have all been very excited to share their knowledge of the world with their class! In Science, we are focusing on different types of plants, learning to identify parts of flowers and trees, as well as understanding their purpose.
We have had a very exciting visit from some Guinea Pigs during this time too – the children had an opportunity to learn facts about guinea pigs, see and touch a variety of guinea pigs and understand how to care for them.
